The Log. General knowledge on travelled distance:
The Log: Navigation device on board of the ships used for measuring speed and distance travelled in a given time.
To solve several problems which arise in navigation, determining the distance travelled by ship is a step just as important as determining directions at sea.
Also, in certain situations, it is necessary to know the speed of the ship.
In the development of navigational aids were used various principles and processes for determining either speed or distance travelled, or both simultaneously.
The equipment with which to determine these items are called ‘log’.
